Steve Cox - Owner
Steve grew up with a passion for basketball in rural Indiana during the height of Hoosier Hysteria (he played a 5th grade game on the “home” court of the fictional Hickory Huskers before the movie was conceived). A playing career was not in the cards as Steve didn’t make it past the first round of cuts for his 7th grade team. No matter, as Steve has a passion for organization and administration. In 2007, Steve and his wife Laura noted there was an opportunity to improve the youth sports culture in central Ohio, so they founded the local i9 Sports affiliate. Since then i9 Sports North Columbus Metro has become the largest i9 Sports league in the country with over 10,000 kids participating annually. Steve’s focus with i9 Sports was to create a league focused on the fun of play while teaching life lessons for kids, with a high-level of organization for parents. In 2016 Steve was approached by Elevate Basketball founder Matt Stavroff asking if he Steve would be interested in assuming the ownership of Elevate Basketball Academy. Recognizing that there was an opportunity for kids looking to learn more basketball skills and for kids ready to move their game to the next level, Steve jumped at the chance. Steve feels that i9 Sports and Elevate Basketball Academy are a great compliment to each other as Elevate is a natural progression for those kids looking to move from recreational to really learning the game. Combining the organizations and administrative systems Steve has learned with Cindy Martin’s coaching system has created a partnership that Steve is proud of and excited to work at each day.
